36 Weeks And Still No Babies

Well, here were are on July 2, 2008, and we've passed the 36 week threshold in the twins pregnancy. Who would have guessed this coming into this whole thing? In the last 4-6 weeks Brooks has gone from home bed rest, to hospital bed rest, back to home bed rest, and finally to no bed rest at all. Quite a roller coaster ride of events. Today Brooks is taking advantage of her newfound mobility and is running some errands with her mom.

The last appointment on Monday showed that the babies were 6 lbs. and 6 lbs. 4 oz., but they're still not ready to face the real world. The heart rates are both in the high130s, compared to the 150s and 160s last week. Despite Brooks' adherence to technical analysis (or would it be fundamental???) in trying to determine the sex of unborn babies, I don't think you can tell one way or the other using this information. My philosophy: either find out early or just wait until they're born.

Above is a photo of her at 35 weeks. It's hard to believe that belly represents almost 13 lbs. of babies.

On another note, we recently discovered a bird's nest with five eggs in a fern in our backyard. I guess multiple births are common on our lot. I checked on them nightly during the past two weeks and all eggs hatched and the babies grew up quickly (and safely). In the last two days they grew large enough to venture out on their own, and as of last night, we were down to only two remaining. I'm guessing tonight I'll probably see an empty nest.

I've included a few photos from the past two weeks. The first one is when they were only a few days old and I accidentally watered the fern (and them) without knowing the nest was in there. The second one was from late last week. I'll snap another photo tonight if any of the two are remaining.

Thanks for reading my first official blog post. I'll try to update this on a daily basis so check back often for ramblings and interesting photos.
