With each passing hour Brooks is getting more and more uncomfortable, though she's carrying these babies beautifully. As I type, we have 159 more of these uncomfortable hours left until she is scheduled to have her C-section at Presbyterian. I still don't think she'll last that long, but who knows, she hasn't felt one single contraction during the entire pregnancy. Amazing.Last night she had to sleep on top of the covers on her back with her legs propped up on two pillow shams and just a blanket as a cover. Her toes, feet, ankles and calves have started to retain fluid in the tissue, which is causing extreme stiffness and pressure in her lower extremities. Despite all this, she's battling through the pain and discomfort like a trooper and keeping her sense of humor all along the way.
Since her vanity is still in tact and she won't let me snap any photos, I have to reference a movie that we have both laughed about a lot over the last few days and likened our situation to. If anyone has ever seen Shallow Hal (coincidentally filmed in Charlotte), starring Gwyneth Paltrow and Jack Black, you'll know exactly what I'm talking about. The movie centers around Black's character, Hal, who is notorious for being so shallow that he only dates women based on physical attractiveness. Then one day he is hypnotized by self-help icon Tony Robbins, who miraculously tranforms Hal into someone who only sees the inner beauty in women. That's when he meets Gwyneth Paltrow's character, Rosemary, a an obese woman whom only he can see as a vision of loveliness. For the rest of the movie Hal is smitten with Rosemary, who he perceives as a thin blonde bombshell, while his friends wonder why he is dating a 300-pound heffer.
The irony in all of this is that while Brooks is becoming increasingly uncomfortable and frustrated with the physical toll that the pregnancy is starting to take, she is still as beautiful as the she was 37 weeks ago. That being said, I know that July 15 can't get here soon enough for her.
