Stormy Days, Restless Nights

For the second day in a row we had some pretty bad storms in Charlotte. Unfortunately for Simba, that means for two straight evenings his park outings have been rained out. With no exercise during the day, Simba basically becomes a caged tiger each night, flinging his bones across the house and clawing at the refrigerator, indicating it's time for Brooks and me to eat dinner so we can feed him table scraps. Hopefully the storms will hold off tomorrow so he can release some pent-up energy and spare us the drama. To illustrate the sheer magnitude of the storms, I've included a photo that I snapped with my cell phone through my office window. You can clearly see what looks like a funnel cloud in the near distance. After a few minutes it dissipated and receded back into the sky. It was probably just a cone-shaped cumulus cloud but it was a little unnerving as it passed by.

For the second night in a row, Brooks barely got any sleep (I guess I'm learning to tune things out because I didn't wake up once). The swelling in her feet and legs was unbearable, causing her to toss and turn for most of the night. I sensed her discomfort immediately when I woke up this morning so I convinced her to change her regularly-scheduled doctor's appointment from this afternoon to this morning. Noting the swelling, her doctor was concerned about preeclampsia, so she tested protein levels in Brooks' urine and measured her blood pressure. She even told us that if Brooks' blood pressure was high and she was exhibiting signs of hypertension, a C-section would be scheduled today. However, there were no signs of protein in the urine and her blood pressure was 128 over 75, well within the normal range. After 'kind of' hoping that today would be the day, we were sent home and told to wait until our normally-scheduled C-section. Unless Brooks goes into labor, or her water breaks, or she develops hypertension, the birth date will be July 15 at 1:30 p.m.
