We've Reached Full Term (For Twins)

Brooks is 37 weeks today, which is considered full term for a twins pregnancy. For the first 35 weeks we were worried about keeping these babies in the womb now we're trying to figure out how to get them out.

Even though she's been off bed rest for the last week she might as well still be because she can hardly move. Watching her waddle around like a penguin who just consumed one too many krill makes it uncomfortable even for me to watch. I'd guess that it's been about three months since the last time she was able to look down and see her feet. Our nightly ritual now is for me to massage her calves and toes just to give her some sense of relief so she can sleep.

I was curious about what two 37-week babies looked like in the womb so I decided to Google a few images. According to http://www.parents.com/, here's what babies at 37 weeks are doing:

"Your babies are still squirming in their crowded quarters. Up until now, they have been gaining about a half-pound a week, but now growth slows to an ounce or so a week. That's a good thing, because almost all the available space in the uterus is filled up. Through most of the pregnancy, the babies have relied on their mother for immunities against infections, but in the past few weeks, their own immune systems have begun to develop. This process will continue after birth, and can be helped along by encouraging the babies to breast-feed. In the first days after birth, mom's breasts produce "colostrum," a thin fluid that fortifies the babies' immune systems; the breast milk that follows is also chock-full of immunity-building benefits."
